Organization
SBDN Archives are located in the Draughon Library, Special Collections, Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama.
The Southeastern Bat Diversity Network was founded in
1995 at the North American Symposium on Bat Research
(NASBR). Bat biologists, land managers and others
interested in the conservation of bats that occur in the
southeastern United States constitute the membership.
The SBDN was formed to facilitate communication within
the region, identify priorities and needs specific to the
southeastern US and develop and implement programs
that address regional bat conservation needs. The 16
states included within the SBDN region are shown below.
Until to 2010, SBDN
was directed by a President, President-elect, Secretary,
Treasurer, and a 10 member Board of Directors. In 2010, SBDN restructured and is now in
transition from the larger Board of Directors as the governing body of SBDN to a
much smaller Executive Committee. For this to be accomplished,
the Board restructured the bylaws
consistent with the change in governance. As
part of the transition, during 2011, a portion of the old
Board structure will continue to remain active until those members
complete their terms of office. The full downsizing to the Executive
Committee will eventually take place at the 2012 annual meeting.
