AND 15TH COLLOQUIUM ON CONSERVATION OF MAMMALS IN THE SOUTHEASTERN U.S.

The 10th Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Bat Diversity Network and 15th
Colloquium on Conservation of Mammals in the Southeastern United States was
held at Paris Landing State Park in Buchanan, Tennessee on February 17th and 18th, 2005.
John Nelson of Bethel College (McKenzie, TN) was the local host for these annual meetings.
There were about 113 professionals and students in attendance.
Topics at Thursday's SBDN meeting included a report on
SBDN elections and committee reports, news from state working
groups, and discussion on past and up-coming bat blitzes.
The second session saw six presentations on bat conservation
on private lands.

Friday's Mammal Colloquium consisted of 27 oral and 5 poster presentations on
a variety of mammals, including numerous species of bats, rodents, rabbits,
mesopredators, and the occasional deer. The Best Student Presentation Award was
given to Austin W. Trousdale of the University of Southern Mississippi for his
presentation entitled "Long-term fidelity of Rafinesque's Big-eared Bat
(Corynorhinus rafinesquii) to bridge-roosts in southern Mississippi".

The Southeastern Bat Diversity Network Outstanding Student Presentation Award
was given to Shane Prescott for his presentation entitled "Fall Roosting Ecology
For Male Indiana Bats In Rosson Hollow, Ozark National Forest".

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants were invited to attend the 2006
meetings that will be hosted by the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga on
February 16 and 17, 2006.
