Meeting Times

The 1st joint meeting of the Southeastern Bat Diversity Network and Northeastern Bat Working Group will be held from 1:00 pm 5:00 pm on Wednesday, 20 February and 8:00 am 5:00 pm on Thursday, 21 February. The 18th annual Colloquium on the Conservation of Mammals in the Southeastern United States will be held from 08:00 am 5:00 pm on Friday, 22 February. Socials for all participants will be held from 7:00 10:00 pm on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Registration

Advanced registration is $75.00 for non-students, $45.00 for students, $35 for the mammal colloquium only (Friday) and it is due 6 February 2008 (by 5PM EST). On-site registration is $85.00 for non-students, $55.00 for students, and $45 Colloquium only. Registration includes all meetings, conference materials, and refreshments at breaks. On-site registration will be from 11:00AM 5:00PM Wednesday, 8:00 am 5:00 pm Thursday and 8:00AM 12:00PM Friday.

Abstracts are due 15 January 2008 and must be accompanied by a registration form and payment.

Meeting Site

All meetings will be held at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center, 900 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg, Virginia.

Lodging

A block of rooms has been reserved for this meeting at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center, Blacksburg, Virginia. Reserved room rates for the meetings are $60.00/night. Reserved rooms will be available on a first-come-first-served basis until 12 February. Please make reservations early to guarantee the reduced rate. You can make reservations directly through the Holiday Inn reservation office or call 540-552-7001 and reserve under group code BAT.

A variety of restaurants are available within walking distance and a short drive of the hotel. The conference center is located roughly ~1 mile from downtown Blacksburg.

Travel Directions

From Interstate 81:

  • Take Exit 118-B to 460 West-Blacksburg
  • Follow 460 West bypass to Blacksburg for 9 miles (You will go through the light at the Virginia Tech Entrance)
  • Take the Exit for Prices Fork Road / DOWNTOWN (Rte 412 East)
  • Hotel is on the left after the first streetlight.

From 460 East:

  • Take the Prices Fork Road Exit
  • Turn Left at the stop sign onto Prices Fork Road (Rte 412 East)
  • Hotel is on the left after the first streetlight.

The closest airport is located in Roanoke Virginia ~45 minute drive from Blacksburg. There is a shuttle service available from the Roanoke Airport to Blacksburg. Please, visit smartwaybus.com for current fares and schedule. Other airports include Greensboro NC (2.5 hours) and Charlotte NC (3 hours).

Parking

Those driving to the ASU campus will need a parking pass that will be provided (location to be determined)

Other Activities

Blacksburg is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia, directly adjacent to the Jefferson National Forest. The Jefferson National Forest has numerous hiking, biking, and site seeing opportunities. The Appalachian Trail passes within a few miles Blacksburg. Several trout streams are located on the National Forest and the New River hosts a world class smallmouth bass fisheries. Visit www.dgif.state.va.us to view local fishing opportunities. There are also numerous outfitters established for fishing on the New River. Several commercial caves are also in the area.

Meeting T-shirts will be available for advanced purchase for $12.00 each. Please indicate the size and quantity on the registration form and include payment along with your registration fee. A limited number of T-shirts may be available for sale at the meeting.
